"There was so much haze that we knew we had to leave. I got on my motorcycle and started driving, but I couldn't even go that fast. There was a fellow driving next to me and he went too fast, so he fell off the bridge ahead of us. Imagine, all this fire around, trees burning, and then you fall off the bridge. Anyway, we came and helped him and he's fine now, but it was very scary in the moment."
"What do you think could have been done to prevent this?"
"I don't know. I'm just a worker. I help put out the fires now below the ground. But I hope it doesn't happen again. I know the government is trying, but I want them to try harder. I have no option but to come back and work here and live here. No one here has the option. We help each other when we can - but we need more." (Jambi, Indonesia)
