To put this into perspective, probiotics became mainstream only years ago, companies pushed product out ASAP into the booming industry, yet today - WE’RE STILL NAMING BACTERIA. This is the answer I got when I asked an expert, “Aren’t you afraid of eating ___ since it will change your gut bacteria?” And it’s so true - nobody actually knows what the “best” bacteria are and which ratio, although we’re getting closer. That was a year ago and even in that time, companies like @myviome have discovered so much. Finally unveiling the mechanics of the gut microbiome for the first time — the FIRST TIME. We still barely know anything! So bacteria are important. Healthy gut bacteria are vital to overall health. Probiotics must be important and essential to health right? Yes. If they can make it to your large intestine. Remember that this is a huge industry and probiotics aren’t cheap either. Even if the strain is high quality and alive, it’s been proven that almost every single kind doesn’t make it past your stomach acid. FERMENTED VEG There is still a great benefit from fermented vegetables since they’re more easily digested, highly enzymatic, and the lactic acid has benefits - probably one of the reasons the Japanese live long with great health, so much of their food is fermented! The fiber passes along with less trouble, bacteria eat it and create anti-inflammatory molecules. KOMBUCHA Kombucha though, I have yet to hear or see any benefits from except that it’s a nonalcoholic alternative, and much less sugar than soda or juice. However, I’ve seen data from people who wear continuous blood glucose monitors that show a large sugar spike after drinking kombucha which stays elevated for quite some time. If you are concerned about insulin resistance, diabetes or weight loss at all, I would avoid it!! BOTTLES OF PROBIOTICS The only probiotic I would recommend as of right now are those from @justthrivehealth or @seed. They are encapsulated in a calcium shell (as found in nature) which only activates and releases when it hits your intestines, even being proven in studies to heal leaky gut in 30 days without changing diet. I met with a new doctor on Friday who made some suggestions. He was mostly concerned that although I was very busy treating parts of my body that were in pain my overall condition is a failure and unimproved. He said the most bang for my buck could be found in red light therapy panels for the home - i am trying out this LED bed because it is available at the same place as another treatment @novothor , nanovi @eng3corp inhalation. @nextleveltherapeutics . He prescribed peptide injections for two months- which is something I can do myself and was sent to me from a lab in Kentucky. It will help build muscle fibers. The peptides are reasonably priced. . . The red light therapy helps produce collagen and reduce inflammation, he also recommended that I think about doing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. This is something that’s been mentioned to me before but I was unsure as to whether or not it would be beneficial. He assured me it would help with my overall health. It is quite an undertaking to do the hyperbaric oxygen therapy and I’m not sure if I want to go away to a clinic or commute back-and-forth here in New York City. Having to do these treatments takes a lot out of me and it’s hard to negotiate Around in a busy city. . . A “perfect storm” of things has to occur together to cause your immune system to react to parts of your own body as the enemy. ⁣ ⁣ Part 1: Genetics⁣ If autoimmunity runs in your family, logically, you do have a higher risk of developing one, however emerging information from the field of epigenetics - the study of how we can influence our genes through lifestyle and diet, is teaching us that we can “turn off” bad genes and “turn on” good ones, often just by changing diet, lifestyle, and other factors. Let's keep spreading awareness about the impact that diet and lifestyle changes can have on overall health!💚 _________ Brad's Story: "I have been diagnosed with Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Then all that goes with that; insomnia, sleep apnea, IBS, eczema, etc. I was diagnosed about seven years ago and was on all types of medication for the various symptoms. My diseases got really bad last year due to the chronic stress in my life, and I believe that is what caused everything to go into overdrive. I have been struggling with doctors; they could never give me answers and said the pain would be there forever. In September last year, I weighed 140kgs (308 lbs), the heaviest I’ve ever weighed and was seeing doctors and Physios weekly. I tried many diets over the years, and after reading The Autoimmune Solution, I began to adopt the principles and diet advice from The Myers Way. It was a tough, dark road, but in June this year, I woke up pain-free for the first time in my life. By September I had lost 50kgs (110 lbs). I have since lost more, 58kgs (127 lbs) in total, and I feel amazing. I still get chronic muscle pain, but far from the pain, it was. It’s bearable now. I keep following this diet strictly, saying if Adam and Eve wouldn't have recognized it, I won't eat it. The audiobook came into my life at the perfect time; I was ready to give up. I saw it as my last shot to get out of pain, and the next step was suicide. It’s a difficult diet to follow, hard to say no to all the food you want to eat. It’s the only solution to autoimmunity that I have been able to find. And I feel dealing with autoimmune diseases has made me mentally strong enough to push through with the diet and see the results. Once I experienced the painlessness, the diet got easier and easier. Thank you, your book really did save my life."

MTHFR is a fairly common genetic mutation found in about 30% of the general population. It is found in a much higher percentage in those that suffer from mental health issues (especially Depression and Bipolar). This genetic SNP means that your body has a methylation pathway that is different from the general population and requires a specific form of B12 and Folate. Without these nutrients in the methylated form, you may experience diagnosed B12 deficiency, or mental health symptoms, brain fog, and fatigue. @nutribasics has methylcobalamin and methyltetrahydrofolic acid to insure these nutrients are bioavailable. “You don’t see things as THEY are, you see them as YOU are.” . This quote showed up in the book I’m reading, in a presentation I’m working on, and a lecture I’m listening to. 3 times in 2 days, sounds like the Universe might be trying to tell me something, huh? . I had to let this one sink in, but the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense. It doesn’t mean you don’t get irritated by traffic and red lights when you’re in a good mood. The take home message goes more like this: When you’re in pain, things are more painful. When you’re already frustrated, things are frustrating. When you’re scared, everything feels scary. . Maybe you’re feeling defeated on a project, so every step feels defeating. Or you’re nervous for a big presentation, so even choosing your shoes that day is anxiety producing. Once a mindset really sinks in, it becomes a WHOLE vibe. . For me, just having this awareness has been helpful. Here’s a real example: The other day, I was nervous for a phone call. Before the call, I found myself feeling super anxious about the battery life on my phone (I was definitely in the green). My nerves around one very specific event filtered everything else I was doing. . It’s not easy to recognize that your vibe is perpetuating, and it’s not easy to break the cycle. From my experience, sometimes you just have to raise the flag and be honest to those around you (and maybe yourself too) about what’s going on. Step one: AWARENESS ✅ . PMS, or pre-menstrual syndrome, is something most women feel they have dealt with at least one point in their lives. PMS is classified as having at least one physical and one psychological symptom that occur in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle (i.e. between ovulation and the onset of bleeding) and may continue during menses. About 12% of women have PMS, but up to 90% of women experience at least one PMS symptom. Common symptoms include bloating, cramping, breast enlargement or tenderness, moodiness, depression, anxiety, and the list goes on and on!😖⠀ .⠀ Pharmaceutically, PMS is normally treated with antidepressants (SSRI) and/or oral contraceptives. But there is evidence to support that lifestyle and other nonpharmacologic interventions can help treat PMS. ✅⠀ .⠀ Exercise- Both aerobic exercise and yoga can improve physical and psychological symptoms of PMS. Exercise increases endorphins and reduces cortisol levels, which increases pain tolerance and decreases anxiety and depression. Aerobic exercise also lowers renin levels in the body. This decreases sodium retention and relieves bloating. Yoga increases levels of GABA in the brain, improving mood. It also increases alpha-brain wave activity, promoting the release of serotonin, causing relaxation. 3 sessions of 30-60 minutes of aerobic exercise (such as walking, running, swimming, biking, etc.) and at least two 50-minute sessions of yoga per week are recommended. 🚴‍♀️🏊🧘‍♀️⠀ .⠀ Supplements- 500-1,200 mg of calcium daily has also been shown to be effective in reducing PMS symptoms. Estrogen modulates calcium metabolism, and low blood calcium levels have been linked to PMS. Supplementing Vitamin D and B6 also has some evidence for helping relieve PMS.⠀ .⠀ Diet- Avoid ❌ sodium-rich foods, caffeine and alcohol. Sodium-rich foods worsen bloating. Rosemary, what an amazing herb! Who’s with me? 🙋🏼‍♀️ It’s so easy to grow and so versatile. This evergreen shrub has needle like leaves and white, pink, purple or blue flowers. It can be potted or grown in the garden (great for rock gardens) and is really quite hardy. I find this time of year I’m reaching for rosemary more in the kitchen to add it to a variety of dishes like meats, baking, sauces, garlic and rosemary butter, or on vegetables or pasta. . I am on Day #3 of drinking one #greenjuice a day and I am glowing from the inside out, y'all! As I approach the big 4-0, I'm thinking more about my self-care and overall wellbeing.
