At times we are all haunted by this demon that we believe we had already got ridden off long ago... But often it's just one of those times when we're extremely vulnerable, in which we are disturbed yet again by our own demons, causing unsettling amount of distress and emotional pain. . Then how to deal with them before they get the better of us? . After failing and failing and failing over a million times... I've found this one solution that has been truly helping me to NOT get bothered by any of my past fears, guilt or something dark... . It's "POSITIVE DISTRACTION." In simple sense, it's distracting or just diverting our attention towards things that excite us, that make us happy, and keep us PHYSICALLY busy. Please note here, that even though this is a mental or psychological based problem, but the solution is physically indulging in the activity that makes us happy so that we forget those tormenting feelings and get going! . Hope this brings value to your day❤️

👾 How cute are these worry monsters?! Monsters are usually scary but this time, monsters are on your side. Their job is to slowly nibble away at your worries till they’re gone! . 🍽 After telling the child how these worry monsters can help them, I also discuss topics such as: 1. Teamwork - you have to help too! 2. Eating worries takes TIME 3. If we think about our worries, we’re feeding it . ✏️ Then, I ask the child to draw their worries on the sheet that each monster is holding. If the child comes up with an “irrational” worry (e.g. a zombie apocalypse) I try and encourage them to draw a different worry down. While this could be a legitimate concern for some children, I don’t want to inadvertently reinforce the worry as being real! It’s also hard to come up with strategies to work on worries like that.. because it’s completely out of our control. . 👏🏼 These worry monsters by @outcomes_therapy can be downloaded for FREE @teacherspayteachers. How comfortable are you right now in your life? I was super comfortable up until a few months ago. I was super comfortable being broke. Super comfortable living at home. Super comfortable working a dead end hospitality job I kinda hated. Super comfortable spending days watching hours of Netflix and doing nothing else. Super comfortable wasting all my money on alcohol and shit I didn’t need. Super comfortable eating like shit and never working out. Super comfortable just drifting through life. Fuck, I was even kind of comfortable living with shit loads of mental health issues, because you know what? I was used to suffering. Don’t get me wrong though, I had big aspirations. Big goals. Big dreams. A massive vision for how I wanted my life to be. But it was easier for me to stay comfortable even though I was unhappy than it was for me to get out of my comfort zone and do the inner work that it would take for me to achieve the vision I had for my life. That’s when I realised that I’d created a prison for myself 🤯 Have you created a prison for yourself too? The hard truth is, that if you want to make any kind of progress you have to get comfortable with getting UNcomfortable. You have to constantly expand your comfort zone again and again and again. You have to do the inner work and once you start peeling back the layers, breaking through your limiting self beliefs and rewriting your story things are gonna get a whole lot of uncomfortable but in the best way possible 🙌🏻 Do you have what it takes? ✨🖤

Ever heard of Mason Wells? He’s a man that survived three terrorist attacks across the globe. : While Mr. Wells unfortunately had no control over his traumatic experiences, fortunately for the rest of us, his experience is rare. It’s uncommon for one person to fall victim to so many traumatic events of that caliber in a lifetime. : Yet there are some people in this world that constantly FEEL like powerless victims. No matter how tragic or trivial a situation is, they’re the hurt party, and there’s always something or someone else to blame for their suffering. : Those closely connected to a person with victim mentality tend to feel emotionally drained, because these victims want your help to deal with their never-ending crises, but consistently counter your efforts with reasons particular resolutions couldn’t work. : You might walk on eggshells with victims because they’re hyper-sensitive to criticism, and any efforts to challenge their perception will be met with extreme defensiveness, and you are perceived as a villain until you retreat your efforts out of powerlessness to help. : You walk away feeling unsettled, thinking that you’ve failed to help, yet also wondering why this person keeps coming back to you. : Here’s what you need to know: A person with a victim mentality isn’t coming to you for a solution. They’re coming to you for sympathy, for attention, for confirmation that they have no stake in the bad things just always seem to happen to them. : And here’s what you need to do: ✔️ Limit your availability. Offer what time you’re able and willing to, and don’t allow their needs to infringe upon your personal responsibilities. ✔️ Stay solution focused. Be clear about the type of help that you’re able to offer, and don’t get caught up in debate. ✔️ Relieve yourself of responsibility. It’s not your burden to resolve another person’s suffering. ✔️ Maintain perspective. Their emotional reactivity to your efforts may cause you to feel like a villain. That’s not true. Villains don’t intend to help like you are doing. : If you relate to the victim mentality, in my next post, I’ll talk about how people benefit from this approach, and also why it shouldn't persist.

What really drives us? Sex, power and money, sure. But there are 5 more fundamental things that have been shown to universally drive all humans ... . 1) Please others . 2) Be strong . 3) Be perfect . 4) Try Hard . 5) Hurry Up . When in fact... - it’s ok to please ourselves too - to show emotion - to be flawed and make mistakes - to go easy, give up, stop trying - and to take our time... . #knowthyself #mentalhealth #psychology101 #psychologysays #psychologytips #counsellingpsychology #lessonslearnedinlife #mentalwellness #mentalwellbeing

Everyone, meet my new Superhero-Happy Abby. Her superpower- An astounding Emotional Quotient and an impeccable Mental Health. There is not a curveball life has thrown her that she has not taken up with a never before seen resilience and the spirit of a champion. She sees the world through absolutely no other lens than that of reality and rationality. As you can see, she does not have big boobs or tight fitting skimpy clothes and she is not wearing a miniskirt.Firstly, because my heroine WILL NOT BE PIGEONHOLED IN SEXIST STEREOTYPES and secondly, because I am artistically challenged and could not have possibly drawn so much detail off the top of my head.Stay tuned for her adventures into the world of human psychology and mental health! #psychology #mentalhealth #mentalillness #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillnessawareness #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthisimportant #mentalhealthsupport #mentalhealthwarrior #psychology101

I'd love to live in a world where everyone was nice! Where no one would hurt you or take advantage. BUT unfortunately this is not reality. I actually learnt this at a young age. I grew up in a small down that was riddled with drugs and violence. So, I saw and heard about my fair share danger. As I got older I ended up getting into dangerous situations of my own. I had a knife pulled on me, I have been jumped multiple times, I have had multiple things stolen from me and a few situations that are too intense to talk about on here. But, I survived everything and have no scars to show for it all. Why? Because I learnt to be cautious of people. If I'm walking down the street in the dark I'm always on the lookout. If I'm at a strangers place I make sure there are no dangers and I avoid people that may aggregate things. On top of this I know how to talk my way out of things.I know that a fight ends up in a life threatening scenario or possibly jail, so I have always talked my way out of things (even though I have 13 years of martial arts experience). So, my advice to you is to make sure that you are aware of your surroundings and don't get yourself into situations you can't get out of. Walk through safe roads and neighborhoods otherwise uber. Look out for yourself and those around you and don't trust so easily! It’s #safe to say that the majority of #mental health therapist choose the profession with a #desire to assist people with alleviating emotional and mental pain. We also enter the profession with the hopes of supporting people in cultivating lives where they are as healthy and whole as possible. So as much people think, most of us hold our clients more than one hour a week. #psychologyfacts #copingskills101 #psychology101 #psychologyhumor #psychologydegree #psychologyGuru #sherrynafehlmft #cbttherapist #mindfullTherapy #selfawarenessjourney #selfawarenessquotes #selfconfidenceboost #selfconfidenceiskey #selfcarethreads #selfcarelove #womanempowerment #womancare #mindfulnessquotes copingskills101 #mindfullnessmoment #mindfulmft #parentingquotes #parentinglife #healthyrelationships

💰 Resources don’t have to cost an arm an a leg. While I love supporting other allied health professionals by purchasing the resources they put so much effort and time into, I love sharing free resources on this page because not everyone has the luxury of spending what they’d like to spend on resources. . 🙋🏻‍♀️ If your budget doesn’t allow you to purchase as many resources as you’d like, don’t be afraid to make your own. All you need is paper, a laminator, and a pen! The pros of making your own resources is that it’s exactly what you wanted. You know your clients best, you know how you work, so therefore the resources you create for yourself will work best for your session. . 🎨 Don’t worry if it doesn’t look as “fancy” as the resources you purchase online (I’m obsessed with @teacherspayteachers), because honestly - your clients don’t care! Pictured are “control cards” I created in less than 15 minutes, including laminating and cutting. . 🚫 The concept of control is so important, especially for children who frequently feel worried or anxious. We work together on sorting these cards into my control, an adult’s control, and no control. I emphasise that no one has control over everything, even adults! . 💬 I also focus on things in the no control pile - many parents have a tendency to overexplain when the child is frustrated or upset over things that at out of anyone’s control, such as traffic, losing a game, or the weather. Instead of explaining things that we can’t control, it’s easier to remind the child that “remember, we have no control over traffic” and redirect the conversation. The more you explain why you’re stuck in traffic, the more likely they’ll continue to escalate! . #psychologist #childpsychologist #psychologistlife #educationalpsychology #educationalpsychologist #therapy #therapysession #therapyresources #inspirationaltherapy #ndis #ndisprovider #mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #autismawareness #autism #anxiety #anxietyrelief #anxietysupport #psychology #occupationaltherapy #alliedhealth #psychology101 #alliedhealthprofessionals #alliedhealthcare #games #teacherspayteachers #tptfreebie #fun #resources

Humility, kindness and compassion are key character traits to develop when dealing with finances and loved ones. Being compassionate, kind and humble with a spouse that is struggling to grasp personal finance, most often propels them more than getting upset with them does. . Be kind, for everyone is fighting there own battle. . ACES studies have shown that when we look a behaviour through the lense of trauma rather than institutional criminalization, real progress is made for the individual who needs HELP which in turn helps society. Traumatic events include physical, psychological, and sexual abuse; terrorism and war; domestic violence; witnessing violence against others; and accidents and natural disasters. They can result in serious stress and detrimental consequences for survivors and their families. Approximately 50% of the world population will experience at least one traumatic event in their lifetime. Although the majority of individuals will be able to absorb the trauma over time, many survivors experience will be chronic. Approximately 8% of survivors will develop Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Many survivors currently living with PTSD experience symptoms that are chromic. These include: nightmares, lack of sleep, motor movement disturbances, difficulty in building positive relationships, fear, anxiety, anger, shame, aggression, suicidal behaviors, mistrust in others, and isolation. Psychological disorders may also occur in conjunction with posttraumatic stress including depression, anxiety, and alcohol/substance abuse. #psychologytheory #psychologystudent #psychologyclass #psychologyfact #psychology #psychologist #MentalHealth #mentalillnessawareness #psychology101 #socialwork #psychologyclub

My ideas for how therapy SHOULD be used go far beyond just overcoming the stigma. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think it should be talked about as a preventative measure, rather than a last resort. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I think it should can be done in fun group settings, not ONLY the feared one-on-ones. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I want to challenge the insurance billing status quo. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I have LOTS of big plans for my practice. And damnit, if PLEATHER can overcome the perception of being a cheap plastic knock off to a luxury ideology, I have no doubt I can pull it off. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Speaking of luxury fashion: did you see @ashleylcollins' stories covering her Ultimate Edit today???? HOW AMAZING DOES THAT LOOK???? She's giving away a Refresh Edit (check out her website) to this week's winner! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ And because it's Thanksgiving, we're going to focus this week's tags on DEEP CONNECTIONS. Be sure to tag your stories where you are spending quality time with the people you love -- family by birth or by choice! Don't forget to include the hashtag #theMINDmovement and my name so that I can track you!
