At the end of the year, I review the past 12 months. What has happened - the good, the not so good, the challenging, the joyful and the sad. I focus on what I am grateful for and what humbles me. What fuels my heart and my soul I have made a practice the past 5 years of taking stock to see how far I've come, to see the value of the past year's lessons rather than what wasn't and what needs to be in the new year Don't get me wrong, I still set goals but have taught myself to look for value in the past year, not failure or what didn't happen. Perception IS everything Leaving corporate to become a Sleep Consultant is something I remain grateful for. It is truly a calling and a passion. For me, it is about helping families at their most vulnerable, being a support for them and empowering them in their parenting journey Being given the opportunity to teach students about holistic sleep work through the #InternationlParentingandHealthInstitute is such a gift and blessing. My heart is full My hope is to bring light, compassion, support and love to families when they need it most If you are interested in holistic sleep work, visit https://parentinghealthinstitute.com/maternity-sleep-english-canada/ #sleepconsultant #holisticsleep #InternationalParentingandHealthInstitute #emotionalwellbeing #attachmentparenting #childsleep #responsivesleepwork #responsive_parenting #parenting #wellness

Meet recent graduate Nicole of @theloving.bond. She had this to say about the course ... “If you're passionate about working with children (and their families), I highly recommend taking this course! It's about so much more than just sleep and completely changed the way I parent. You'll learn from various experts like OT's, pediatric dentist, craniosacral therapist…” AND, “thank you for this amazing course! I’ve loved every minute of it and it already completely changed me and my daughter's relationship (for the better of course!).” Nicole

I'm a big believer in sticking to a set routine and schedule when it comes to my daughter - meals, snacks, nap and bedtime all occur around the same time every day. There is some general flexibility but I find that when I stick to the schedule, my daughter is a much happier, easy-going, content 2-year old. But of course I want to allow for flexibility so we can live our lives. . This weekend we did just that and crossed our fingers that our daughter would nap in the car on the way to a friend's birthday party. Guess what? She didn't. And that's okay. She had a few minor meltdowns over things that wouldn't typically bother her but other than that, she had a blast and we got to enjoy time with friends. . Fast forward to bedtime (we put her to bed an hour earlier given the missed nap) and she pretty much became the girl from the exorcist during bedtime routine. She was almost relieved by the time we laid her down in the crib. It was a rough 30-minutes but worth it for the fun day we all had. . Moral of the story: Find the balance that allows for flexibility to enjoy life but not so much flexibility that you can't enjoy your little one . #sleepcoach #sleepcoaching #sleepconsultant #virginiasleepconsultant #novasleepconsultant #dcsleepconsultant #babysleepcoach #tiredmama #tiredbaby #tiredparent #sleepsense #sleepsenseprogram #sleepsenseconsultant #personalizedsleepprogram #healthysleephabits #routine #flexibility #flexibleschedule #balance

Throw back to this picture from last year, right before we taught him how to be an amazing sleeper! He didn’t know it yet, but this crib was about to be one of his favorite places! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Once you give your baby independent sleep skills, it’s incredible to see how much they truly love sleep! We all assume babies just don’t like to sleep but really we just need to teach them! Just like we teach them to walk, talk and eat with a spoon! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ After realizing what a great sleeper he was and how much he craved to lay down and snuggle his Lovey after a day of playing and adventure, I honestly felt bad that we didn’t give this to him sooner! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #babysleep #teamnosleep #howtomakeababysleep #sleeptips #sleeptricks #sleephelp #healthysleep #sleeptraining #sleepconsulting #mybabywontsleep #babyhealth #postpartumjourney #sleepsense #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #tiredmama #needsleep #sleepdeprived #badsleeper #smartbaby #babiesneedsleep #boymom #girlmom #toddlermom #wakewindows #howbabiessleepthroughthenight #babysleeptips #bestbabyadvice #babysleeping

😴Despite popular belief, sleep is not a luxury that can be dispensed with; it is an absolute necessity! Current research shows that between 20 and 30 percent of all infants and toddlers will have some difficulty sleeping and of those, 84% will continue to have sleep problems up until the age of 5! This can take its toll on you as a parent. When you don’t get enough sleep there are a number of things that can happen, including daytime drowsiness, which can leave you with lack of energy and alertness. In addition, Microsleeps can occur which are brief episodes of sleep, lasting just a few seconds, which can be extremely dangerous and can cause accidents. Lack of sleep can also affect your mood, general wellbeing, stress, anxiety and general coping skills (as if parenting wasn’t hard enough!). In order for children and adults to function at their peak performance, both must be getting good, consolidated sleep. Children who sleep 11 to 12 hours a night awaken well-rested, ready to cope, attentive, cheerful, and best able to learn from their environment. That is why every Baby Sleep the Night certified consultant is passionate about helping families get the sleep they need.

Let’s talk overtired! This time of year means late nights and a whole lot of overtired babies, kids and parents 🤪 When a baby or child is overtired they have gone past the point of being “tired” and their stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline have started to rise and it’s as if they are ready to par-tay!!! When a baby is overtired they will be extremely difficult to settle, they will fuss and cry, and then when they eventually do fall asleep, they will more than likely wake shortly after. A baby becomes overtired when they have too long of awake windows in between naps and bedtime. (A newborn would be around 45mins and a 6 month old around 2.5 hours). Later bedtimes actually have the opposite effect and won’t encourage a sleep in! (If only it were that easy!) So to try and combat an overtired child this festive season, aim for an early night where possible and if you do need to have late nights, try longer naps in the day to ensure their awake windows aren’t too large. You can tell by the daylight in this picture 😂 that we aimed for a pretty early bedtime tonight due to the late nights we had on the weekend all 3 girls were asleep by 6.30pm! And I won’t be far off them! Do you find it easy to tell when your little one has become overtired? • • • • • #thesleepteacher #babywhisperer #sleepconsultant #mumlife #motherhood #childhood #childhoodunplugged #sleep #routine #sleepdeprived #overtired #honestmotherhood #parenting #parenthood #mummyblog #mummyblogger #mummybloggerau #newcastle #nsw #ladystartup #girlsroomdecor #girlsroom

Christmas parties, family gatherings, late nights, plenty of sugar and foods we don’t usually eat=a recipe for tricky behaviour and disrupted sleep! 💤 Here’s some tips to minimise the impact on our little ones - 💤 Try to prevent several nights out in a row meaning late bedtimes. This will create a grumpy, overtired child and will make the Christmas period not the “happiest time of year”! 💤If you are going to relatives houses and there is a chance you’ll be there until late, pack a bag with all the babies/toddlers sleep bits and pieces for sleep (Porta cot, white noise, PJs) so you can put them down to sleep stay as long as you need to and have less impact on their sleep routine 💤If you’re going to an arvo event, it might be worth leaving earlier and giving your little one a nap in the car so they are well rested, sticking to their routine somewhat and preventing overtiredness 💤 Longer day naps maybe necessary to compensate for late nights/active/hot days (as long as it doesn’t affect their settling at night) 💤 Day naps later in the day, may help you get through a Christmas catch up at night eg early dinner 💤 Be mindful of tolerance of our little ones, we can’t handle as much stimulation as we can 💤 Allow Christmas treats, but eating sugar, chocolate, may not be ideal everyday. These foods can impact children’s ability to settle/sleep for naps and at night, not too mention the impact on behaviour, digestion & becoming accustomed to a high sugar diet and not desiring other foods which their require-vegetables and forms of protein - Above all have a safe and enjoyable Christmas 🎄

Reposted from @labor.nurse.mama (@get_regrann) - Right? Repost: @nomilklikemamas This is food for thought isn't it? I often say to mothers what a bizarre culture we parent in. Often alone behind closed doors. In other communities mothers would be surrounded by other mothers & extended family, all supporting her & her new baby, ensuring she got time to rest & recover, along with passing on the art of mothering & Breastfeeding. Now we are left with a book someone bought us, heaps of well-meaning (but often misguided) 'advice' & then left to get on with it. Is it any wonder so many mothers feel so low. Post natal depression is a multi faceted illness, but I can't help but feel that in some cases it is purely situational & this would make a lot of sense. Why wouldn't a mother feel depressed left alone, exhausted, adjusting to her new post-natal body whilst trying to do her utmost to care for the most precious person in her life. The pressure on a new mother is insurmountable. We must build communities in the best way we are able in the way that we live today. This is one way that social media has had a huge impact on parenting, & used well in can be incredibly positive. I see this daily within our online community (#linkinbio to join). Also seek out your local support groups. The Breastfeeding support café we run is always filled with #womensupportingwomen & this amazing atmosphere of support can really be felt in the air. If you're feeling low, please speak to your healthcare professional & get the support you deserve. Please find those networks of other mothers for support. It may be one step towards feeling well & not being alone. 🖤( • )( • ) 🖤. . . . . . #nomilklikemamas #postnataldepression #postpartumdepression #lactationconsultant #holisticsleepcoaching #mindfulbreastfeeding #breastfeeding #breastfeedingsupport #breastfeedingcafe #motherhood #normalizebreastfeeding #publichealth #responsiveparenting #womensupportingwomen #sleep #sleepconsultant #labornursemama #baby #nutrition #affirmations #mindfulness #family #familycenteredcare 📷: @research4moms - #regrann

🎵Let's talk about music and sleep.🎵 Music is a brain engaging sound, which is perfect for when your babies are awake and playing. Music helps your baby's brain🧠 to grow and develop. When your baby listens to music your baby's brain is stimulated to grow new synapses, these are linked to language skills. - This all sounds awesome right! #babysleep But not when it's time to sleep. - Feel free to play the music🎹 during your pre sleep wind down, but avoid it during actual sleep time. Instead swap this for white noise, that is a shhhh sound, or a deep rumbly sound which relaxes your baby's brain and encourages deeper better sleep. #lullaby - If you are unsure how loud your white noise machine should be, I like to have my clients white noise as loud as a vacuum cleaner, or as loud as the water running over me in the shower.🛁 #whitenoise - Do you use white noise? Or music? - Or nothing? - What works for your baby? . . . . . . . . . . #babysleepconsultant #sleeptip #bettersleep #whitenoisesleep #needsleep #sleepconsultant #askme #brainpower #musicsleep #babywhitenoise #nocrysleep #gentlesleep #sleepcourse #sleepbabysleep

Happy Monday peeps! What’s your top tip to survive this Monday morning? 🥴🤪🥰

{Naps} Figuring out your baby’s ideal awake intervals and nap times can take a little bit of detective work. Being attuned to their individual sleepy cues is the best way to determine their individual sleep needs. Early cues include yawning, losing interest, or turning their face away. Late signs include back arching, rubbing eyes, not wanting to be put down, crying, and pulling ears. But again, every baby is different. Some give very obvious cues, whereas others are more difficult to read. This is where learning about awake intervals for age can be useful... stay tuned! . . . . #babysleepcoach #sleep #sleeptips #babysleep #toddlersleep #newmom #momsupport #holisticsleepcoaching #holisticsleep #gentleparenting #sleepconsultant

If you ever felt awake but were not able to move you were probably facing a state that is called sleep paralysis. In this state, you might be able to open your eyes and your brain is still partly dreaming - producing things that you could interpret as real. If you ever experienced this, then you probably know how frightening it can be. Check out this week’s episode to find out more about sleep paralysis and how to handle it best. Also check out the show notes for additional information 👇👇👇 https://www.sleeptrust.eu/sleep-paralysis #sleepparalysis #luciddreaming #luciddreams #sleepparalysisdemon #awakebutnotawake #awakebutasleep #hallucinations #intruder #awake #dreaming #sleeptrust #sleepcoach #sleepcoaching #michaelhildebrandt #sleepconsultant #qualitysleep #improvesleepquality #sleep #naturalcures #insomniacs #needsleep #cantsleepnow #sleeplife #sleeptips #sleeptraining #sleephealth #sleephelp #bestsleep #goodnightsleep #sleeptight

So, I thought I would do an introduction.... This is me, Vanessa from Sleep Right Sleep Tight, I'm a mum to two gorgeous but super cheeky boys and a wife to an amazing man. My first son was born at 28 weeks and lets just say his prematurity was just one of your many challenges, he never slept, at our worst he was up every 20mins until one night I had hit rock bottom (mind you he was 2.5years old) I sought the help of a sleep consultant (Tanya from Sleep Right Sleep Tight). On night four of our customised sleep plan he slept through, I felt like a whole new person!! Fast forward a few years and I was given the opportunity to become a sleep consultant. After seeing the difference a good night's rest gave my whole family I couldn't wait to tackle my training. I have walked in your shoes, felt sleep deprivation, suffered PND and came out the other side, stronger for it. I absolutely love what I do and I can't wait to help more families create healthy sleep habits for their little ones. . . #sleeplikeababy #sleeprightsleeptight #sleepnconsultantcairns #sleepconsultantbrisbane #needmoresleep #sleephelp #sleepconsultant #gentlesleepmethods #newbornsleep #toddlersleep #tiredmum #sleepdeprived #sleepexpert #babysleepexpert #toddlersleepexpert #sleeptraining #babywontsleep #letmeintroducemyself #abitaboutme #lovewhatido

Pearls of wisdom from our very own un-bagged Baghdad 😂⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Our fave is the @halosleepsack (though Sir S currently uses one that I sewed myself for my twins), and I love using a sleep sack because:⁣ ⁣🛌 Safe sleep - blankets are not recommended for sleep for infants + newborns⁣ ⁣🛌 Keeps babies and little cozy and warm - even if they’re squirmy sleepers and would squirm out of under a blanket⁣ ⁣🛌 Prep for the future: if this kid will be a crib climber, sleep sacks help prevent that before it even happens.⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Raise of hands if your baby or toddler uses a sleep sack 🙋‍♀️⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣Love and Lollypops, ⁣ ⁣Chaya Shifra⁣ ⁣

A child grows faster in the first year than any other time in their life. Not only are they growing physically, but they're also growing mentally and emotionally. This take a whole lot of work for their little bodies and requires a whole lot of sleep. In fact, infants require anywhere from 14-17 hours of sleep each day depending on their age. But sleeping for long periods at a time is a learned skill and your little one might need help establishing positive sleep habits. As a certified sleep consultant I am equipped with the skills required to help your family set a foundation for positive sleep habits. Every child deserves a person to meet their every need. To soothe them when they cry, to provide them a warm meal and their favorite color water cup, to tuck them into their own bed and provide security when they feel unsure. I laid next to B’s crib to help him fall asleep today. I watched his little eyes flutter closed and knew he felt secure enough in that moment to let himself drift to sleep with me by his side. I instantly knew that me and Cody have positioned ourselves exactly where we need to be. I watched R cling to Cody, as her attachment builds to our family. How could we be anywhere else but here. Meeting these babies needs, giving them hope for their future and a home to grow. We can’t wait to see their story unfold ♥️♥️ #fosterparents #fosterfamily #fostercareawareness

Waking kids up is the worst. But sometimes it’s necessary to preserve night time sleep. For babies, we generally don’t have to worry about capping off naps unless they go longer than about three hours. And that’s more for the sake of getting full bellies during the day. For toddlers, however, we often have to cut naps short and/or push bedtime back to preserve those 11-12 hours at night! And around the age of three, that nap should be dropped altogether and replaced with quiet time, once again to preserve those 11-12 hours at night. Some families choose to keep the nap longer, which is fine, that just means a later bed time is necessary and you can only expect about 8-10 hours at night. . . If you’re confused as to how in the world a baby or toddler could sleep 11-12 hours at night, I’d love to chat!

Let me guess, you are feeling nervous about the idea of your children sharing a room. So many unknowns of how it will go. . . . While you can’t control everything when it comes to your children room sharing, there are some things you can do to set them up for success! 🤗 . . . 1) Hold off on room sharing until both children are sleeping through the night. If one is still waking, it will likely disrupt the other. . . . 2) If your children go to bed at the same time, great! If not, put the down child who needs to go to bed earlier, and then when it’s time for your other child to go to bed, complete their routine in a different room, then quietly take them to bed. . . . 3) If your little’s are older, you can put sleep rules in place to help them understand the sleep expectations. . . . 4) If one of your children need to be sleep trained, temporarily move the other one to a different room. For example, if your 3 year old needs to be sleep trained, but your 13 month old is sleeping well, set up a pack n play in another room for your 13 month old while you sleep train the 3 year old. Once sleep training is complete, move them back in together. . . . 5) White noise is your friend 😉. Not only does it offer a soothing component, but it also can help block out noises in the room, which will help prevent one from waking the other. . . . Questions about room sharing? Post them below 💕 . . . 📸 @hellobabybrown . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #sleepconsultant #sleepcoach #babysleep #toddlersleep #sleeptraining #ohheymama #sleepdeprived #modernmom #motherhoodrising #teammotherly #momprenuer #momsquad #momtribe #momsofinstagram #mynameismama #candidchildhood #honestmotherhood #stopdropandmom #fullheartmamas #acupofmotherhood #beingamom #honestlymothering #girlmom #thisismotherhood #theeverymom #mamaneedssleep #mamaistired #sleeptips #hushlittlebirdie #sleeptraining #roomsharing

If your child is under 3 years old and has been climbing out of the crib, it does not mean that he or she is ready for a toddler bed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In fact, we advise keeping your child in a crib until the age of 3. At that age, they are much more likely to understand consequence and communicate better which will make bedtime escapes easier to avoid. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It is also a safer age for your child to be able to be “free” at night. If your little angel needs some support for staying in bed, we’re here to help.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #sleepcoaching #littleones #sleepytime #newmom #momtobe #sleepybaby #sleepplan #sleeptime #sleeptraining #healthyliving #goodnightsleep #sleepexpert #babysleepconsultant #parenting #sleepcoaching #parentsupport #infantsleep #toddlersleep #gentlesleeptraining #momhacks #sleepconsultant #sleepconsulting #sleepcoach #lifewithlittles #understandingyourbaby #mindfulparenting #sleepplan #sleepisthenewblack #professionalsleepadvice #trainbabysleep

Parents of toddlers - you’re not a bad parent when you say ‘no’. Now is such an important time to set boundaries. You won’t raise polite, kind or respectful children by saying ‘yes’ all the time. I hate saying no to Otis but I understand that he needs to learn from me & at the end of the day I want him to be a good little human - not a bratty one who’s never been told ‘no’. Paul & I are big believers in manners & we have taught Otis to always say ‘please’, ‘ta’, ‘hello’ & ‘goodbye’. He doesn’t get what he wants unless he uses his manners. You’re a parent first & friend second to your little humans ❤️ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #earlyparenting #parenting #childhood #toddlers #boundaries #healthyboundaries #raisethemkind #respect #manners #happychildhood #sleepconsultant #sleepspecialist #gentlesleeptraining #gentleparenting #mum #dad

The idea of a good, well-adjusted child only serves one purpose: to make US feel good and validated as parents! When our children sleep, behave, are sociable, well-mannered, and independent, we are seen as good parents. If they cry, seek comfort, or express any negative emotions, we feel incompetent (even though this has nothing to do with our abilities) as parents!⁣ ⁣ We do love them unconditionally, but we show them they are only welcome when they comply to the expectations we have grown to believe are right. This uneducated idealisation of babies and the idea that good mothers have good babies, leads parents to seek for measures that help their children comply (ignoring who they are and what they need, and disrespecting their wellbeing).⁣ ⁣ When a baby who is able to self-settle and sleep all night on their own, is seen as “good”, many parents will feel compelled to sleep train in order reach this standard, unaware that THEIR baby is actually the norm!⁣ ⁣ Of course we all want independent, well-behaved & well-adjusted children, but a child who stops asking for help when they need it, is not always what it seems. This extract from The Children Were Fine, explains it perfectly:⁣ ⁣ “When children face separation or loss, they sometimes withdraw into a compliant state and it can be hard for the adults around them to remain open to what is happening for them at a deeper level. Even the most sensitive adults can fall into the trap of believing that a compliant or withdrawn child is genuinely ‘fine’. (...) When the adults around them are not able to help them with their distress, children internalise their feelings and become outwardly compliant.(...) the assumption is so easily made that the ‘good’ child is ‘well adjusted’.⁣ ⁣ However they will be doing a considerably better service to children by remembering that in allowing them to express their feelings they are ‘not causing distress, but discovering it’; and by doing so, they are allowing these children to have their feelings responded to and understood, giving them crucial experience of being accepted and receiving the comfort they need from the adults around them.”

Check this little man out that I’m currently working with. He is a 3 month old who to be fair is a pretty good sleeper. Mum reaches out as she wanted a plan to teach him to self settle. Since working together we’ve removed the dummy with no tears involved and he’s now taking his naps perfectly with no resettling required, plus he’s consistently sleeping through! We are doing this prep work so that he’s in a better position when the 4 month regression hits! If you’d like to book in For some one on one help, call 0424191149 x

‘It’s the most wonderful time of the year’.... 🎅🏻🎄❤️.. . .💛I love Christmas, it’s a truly special time for families. However I used to really worry about this period when my little sleeper was really in the thick of her wakefulness. It can be a bit overwhelming, worrying and stressful and if you are already struggling with little or no sleep then the idea of lots of moving around, staying in different places or having people to stay and late nights can feel quite ‘big’ when you are in the midst of your sleep struggles. . 💙 .Please don’t worry though whatever happens over that period is just temporary - be kind to yourselves, prioritise yours and babies/child’s needs and make sure you get extra help from all those extra visitors and family! . . .💛However if also you’d like to to get some sleepy advice, there’s lots of quick wins or simple gentle strategies to put in place to help your little one and you through this time. Some things can wait until the new year but better sleep doesn’t have too ! Contact me today for some sleep support as I have a couple of spaces left for packages before the end of the year! 💛💙💤 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #toptip#christmassnuggles#christmassleep#sleepingbaby#sleepsoundly#sleeptips#sleepingadvice#youcangetsleep#sleepconsultant#sleepcoach#gentlesleep#sleeptroubles#earlywakes#bedtimestruggles#babysleep#toddlersleep#holisticsleep#holisticsleepcoach#sleepbetter#babywontsleep#sleepstrategies#holisticcoach#inneedmoresleep#parentingtips#whywonttheysleep#stopwakingup#mumslife#mychilddoesntsleep#sendhelp#gentlesleepsolutions

REPOST via @samfaiths ”Our sweet boy has been sleeping 8-10 hour stretches at night this week and this mama is loving it! I remember thinking couple months ago while co-sleeping with Christian if I would ever get to enjoy sleeping again and it was rough. But my friend Anna over at @littlewinkssleep saved us by helping us find a sleep routine that worked for us when C was only two months old and within a week C was sleeping in his crib and fell in to his new routine smoothly. Don’t get me wrong there were rough nights, but Anna was always there to support us and help us through all the challenges. Now at 5 months he can fall asleep on his own anywhere with no fuss and wakes up the happiest boy! We are so thankful for Anna, she is so passionate about helping families and can help your family too!”

It can come as a surprise when your baby has been sleeping well and suddenly, they start waking at night and refusing naps. At around 12 months old there are a number of developmental milestones including learning new skills such as walking and learning to talk. This is exciting and can be overwhelming for them which can lead to the sleep regression. Remember, this is a temporary phase and it is crucial to stick to your routines as much as possible. . . . . . . . . #nightnannies #nightnanniessurrey #nightnanny #sleepconsultant #babysleeping #newborn #toddler #toddlersleeping #sleepregression #12montholdbaby #12montholdbabysleepregression #tiredparents

ESSENTIAL TRAVEL TIPS ☃️🎄☃️🎄☃️ ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ Travelling with children is very common at this time of year and can sometimes worry parents that this will throw their little ones out of their routine. This doesn't have to be the case. Below are my top tips for helping your children settle into new environments ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ 🎅1. Make sure you bring the items you usually use at bedtimes - white noise machine, comforter, sleeping bag etc. ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ 🎅2. If possible, show your little ones where they are sleeping a while before nap/bedtime so they become familiar with their surroundings. ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ 🎅3. Try and keep to the same routine they have when you're at home so your infants day feels as normal as possible. ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ 🎅4. If you're worried that the room your baby is staying in isn't going to be dark enough then @thegrocompany do an excellent portable blackout blind called Gro Anywhere Blackout Blind (not an #ad) ▫️ ▫️ ▫️ #travellingwithkids #christmascountdown #stepintochristmas #sleeptips #sleepmas #sleeptime #sleepy #sleepconsultant #sleep #gentleparenting #sleepcoach #baby #babysleep #toddlersleep #sleepdeprived #sozaboutthetypos #dyslexia #dyslexic #sleepiskey #thisparentcan

. 🌟🎄💚8️⃣💚🎄🌟 . Aside from the 4 month regression (which is technically a progression🙈)I don’t believe in regressions at set ages! This is because Small sleep isn’t linear and can change or hit the sleep skids at any age due to sickness, change in routine, a time tweak is needed or learning leap. I know this probably isn’t what you wanted to hear but I do like to keep sleep real! . Having said that there’s usually a big sleep shift around about the 8️⃣month mark and this is for ✌🏻reasons: ☝🏻 They can start to manage longer nap gaps during the day and their routine may need a time tweak ✌🏻They may be able to start pulling themselves up in the cot and playing can be preferable to peeping 💤 . These are both 💯 natural and it usually adjusts and settles all by itself in time 🙏🏻 Here are my ✌🏻top sleep suggestions for stage: ☝🏻If they start to fight or resist their naps they could be telling us that they’re ready to push their nap gaps out! Try pushing their nap 10/15 minutes later to see if that helps! ✌🏻It’s completely natural for them to pull themselves up when you put them down. It’s very frustrating but natural! The sleep game has changed on them and they need to find a totally new way of falling asleep with their new sleep skill.... the cot cruise 😆 Try to avoid the jack in a bed situation where you put them down the moment they spring up! I suggest giving them the patience to practice their new skill but if they get emotionally uneasy or cry then try to resettle them. . One last thing don’t forget to read my blog cot cruising and crawling.... I’ll pop the link in my stories for you but it can also be found in my VIP highlights ✨ #door8 #careitout #christmas #countdown #advent #adventcalendar #8months #8monthregression #sleepskill #cotcruising #cotcrawling #sleepsuggestions #sleep #sleepconsultant #sleeptraining #sleepexpert #sleeptips

For many of us it is starting to get hot out there 🌞️ The bright sunny days can be great but those hot sticky nights can make it hard for anyone to sleep... and that includes our little ones. So, what is the best temperature for Baby’s Room? I get this question all the time. Parents are very surprised when they hear that the ideal temperature for a baby’s room is only 16 – 20 degrees. A lot cooler than expected. I lean more towards 20 degrees, but the books say 18. To read more about room temperature and safe sleeping please visit the Happy Sleepers website. https://www.happysleepers.com/babys-room-temperature-2/ Happy sleeping 😴 Christine #happysleepers #sleepconsultantmelbourne #babysleeptrainingsuccess #babysleeptrainingexpert #babysleep #mumlife #family #sleep #nosleep #motherhood #parent #improvesleep #sleepconsultant #babysleepconsultant #happybaby #sleeptraining #happymum #parenting

🎄✨💤 12 days of Christmas | Day 7 | Overtired? 💤✨🎄 Overtiredness is common. It can impact on the quality of sleep your baby or child gets because being overtired can actually cause more frequent night waking as it interrupts sleep cycles. You can get caught in a vicious cycle this way. Signs of overtiredness are often: crying, bejng hyperactive, arching the back and going from awake to a "zonked out" state very quickly. Addressing overtiredness can solve a multitude of sleep problems you may be experiencing. Do you think overtiredness is a problem for your little one? I can advise on amount of sleep they need in a day, this could transform their overall sleep. #sleep #sleepconsultant #sleepcoach #baby #toddler #babysleep #toddlersleep #makeachange #parents #parenting #tired #tiredmum #tiredmumsclub #happymum #happybaby #happykids #happymumhappybaby #content #nightnight #sleepwell #keytosleep #nap #naptime #overtired #tired

Sleepy Tips Sunday! Keep a log 💕 More often than not, when we are in the thick of it ie exhaustion 😪 we cannot even remember what we did 2 hours ago! A good idea to help is to keep a log of your sleep times, eating times, activities etc. Once you have this information available to you, it will be easier to review where the source of a sleep challenge may be. Getting the temperature just right for your sleepy sheepy can make a significant impact on sleep! I always recommend keeping those little feet covered with socks or footed P.Js. Little ones lose lots of heat through those cute feet! ☁Interesting fact 1- core body temp has to drop a degree or two to fall asleep. A bedtime bath can help by drawing heat away from the core and to the skin surface. ☁Interesting fact 2- body temp is at the lowest around 4-6 am. being cold is a common culprit for early rising. The early morning hours are a very challenging time to connect sleep cycles. Your sleepy sheepy is in lighter REM sleep. Any discomfort like being chilly can quickly turn into an early-rising situation. I recommend keeping the thermostat around 70 for most of the night, then turning it up to 71-72 degrees around 4 am. What temperatures have you found perfect for your sleepy sheepy? . . . #optimalsleeptemperature #holisticsleepysheepy #holidticsleepconsultant #sleepconsultant #chicagosleepconsultant

Posted @withrepost@alittlesleepstory My caption is just as misleading as the baby sleep industry is when they use the term ‘self-soothe’! ! ! It is an unreasonable expectation that a baby can ‘self-soothe’! And here’s why... A baby has six arousal states – being asleep, drowsy, hypo-aroused, calmly focused and alert, hyperaroused, then flooded (Dr. Stuart Shanker). Due to an infants immature brain development, particularly of the hippocampus or prefrontal cortex (responsible for rationalisation and self regulation), a baby cannot up-regulate or down-regulate from an arousal state. We also know their person permanence is not fully formed until 18 months of age. This process may begin at 6 months old where we begin to see separation anxiety when you leave the room but your baby doesn’t understand where you have gone or when/whether you are coming back. It’s no wonder why our little ones get so upset when mummy or daddy leaves the room, especially when we leave them alone in a dark room to ‘self-soothe’. This would no doubtably send them into a hyperaroused/flooded state, eventually fight or flight would kick in and cortisol levels would rise. When a baby is in a hyperaroused/flooded state they are burning A LOT of energy. They rely heavily on their parents or caregivers to SUPPORT them back to a state of calm (Dr. Allan Schore calls this co-regulation). If they are not comforted with PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL CLOSENESS by a loved one, they will continue to move up the arousal scale, burning significant amounts of energy and increasing cortisol levels. There is this misconception that if a baby is left to cry alone they will eventually learn to self-soothe, resulting in falling asleep. Yes, a baby will most likely fall asleep after being left alone to cry, but this is NOT because they have learnt to self-soothe. “It is the brain’s last mechanism for protecting itself from severe energy depletion.” Dr. Stuart Shanker. They just stop signalling because they learn no one is coming and they fall asleep from exhaustion.
